The aim of this cultural center is to promote the culture, developing the creation and diffusion of all the activities such as theatre, dance, classical music, jazz, opera, cinema. “Dias da Música” with classical music a whole weekend, is the biggest annual event taking place here. There is a restaurant/café with a terrace overlooking the river.

With three rooms of different sizes equipped to host different types of performances, presenting a cultural calendar of global level. Next to the ticket office there is a shop of Portuguese design, however there are more shops in the building including a bookshop. Regarding art, it hosts the Berardo Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art.
This center was built to host Portugal’s presidency of the European Union in 1992, becoming a centre for conferences and professional meetings.
