So near from one of the most degraded neighborhoods in Lisbon (Mouraria), known for its various immigrant communities, this square finally has the attention on it. And the castle is up there on the hill to protect us from evildoers. Around the square and at Almirante Reis Avenue, we can buy spices or check for an Indian or Chinese supermarket.

Nowadays, this square is full of life, becoming one of the most multicultural areas in Lisbon. You can find many kiosks serving food and drinks and you can sit in an esplanade, the food comes from all over the world. At the weekends, Fusion Market takes place; there will be DJ’s, concerts, workshops, showcookings and debates.
Martim Moniz was a noble knight who fought heroically during the Conquer of Lisbon in 1147, under the command of King Afonso Henriques.
