Smallest bookshop in the world

Why locals love it

About the size of a shoe cupboard, this little bookshop sits quietly at the start of the Conçeição stairs, from Madalena Street to the Largo da Conçeição on the South Side of Lisbon’s Castle Hill. Despite the small size of the bookshop, it got a dramatic collection mostly made of old books about the heritage and history of Lisbon

Why you should visit it

The places measures just four square metres and has more than 3,000 books in Portuguese, Spanish, English, Italian, Chinese and Japanese. They are all gathered around a kind of altar dedicated to the best-known Portuguese poet, Fernando Pessoa. Inside, only one person can fit, and he has to move sideways.

Special tip

If you climb the stairs a bit more, you would find a lovely Street Art frame, as a tribute of Mouraria neighbourhood, go for it !
