Feira da Glória

Every Sunday, Avenida Augusto Severo in the Gloria neighbourhood fills with one of Rio’s best open-air street markets (a classic feira livre). Stalls overflow with tropical fruit, vegetables, fresh fish, cheese, honey and spices, while the food section draws crowds for pasteis and the legendary seafood feijoada, so expect a queue. There is also a flea-market corner of clothes, jewellery and bric-a-brac. Go before 10am for the freshest picks and smaller crowds, and bring cash (reais), as many stalls do not take cards. It runs roughly 8am to 4pm.
