This rugged stretch of coast is where the city meets the Pacific, with the Coastal Trail winding past cypress groves, hidden beaches and the haunting ruins of the old Sutro Baths. On a clear day you can see the Golden Gate Bridge framed through the trees and, at low tide, the remains of old shipwrecks. Start at the Lookout visitor center, and wear real shoes since some side paths get steep and sandy.
