Why it matters: ONS Restaurant is the public kitchen of ONS label Breda, a social cooperative that since 2013 has trained several hundred people at a distance from the labour market and helped them move on to paid work. Everything is cooked fresh each day by the participants themselves, and it shows in the warmth of the place. Come for a weekday lunch or the Thursday and Friday buurtdiner (neighbourhood dinner), a bargain at 8 euro for a main. Tip: it sits in the residential Geeren-Zuid quarter of Breda-Noord, well off the tourist trail, so call ahead to reserve and check the summer hours.
