It's rare to find a trainstation being an attraction in itself, but that is exactly what Atocha is. Along with Charmartín, this is one of the major transport-hubs in Madrid, connecting the metro with the main trainlines, and sending trains in all directions in Spain.

The Atocha building is beautiful seen from the outside, but the real wonder hides inside. A minor rainforest, with full-size palmtrees stretching their leafs towards the roof covering the giant hall. A spectacular contrast to all the iron and the marketstalls underneath. You will also find a small pond crowded with hundreds of turtles.
On a less joyful note, the Atocha station also contains a unique memorial for the victims of the terror-bombings here in 2004.
