La Caravelle is one of Marseille’s most beloved bars, a stylish, atmospheric spot hidden up a staircase above a hotel on the old port, with a small balcony overlooking the harbour. Decked out in warm 1920s style, it serves excellent cocktails and pastis to a lively crowd, with live jazz on certain evenings. Combining a fabulous view over the port and the basilica, a characterful interior and a genuinely local buzz, it is a wonderful place for an aperitif and a highlight of the city’s nightlife.
