MuCEM

Vieux-Port  •  ★ 4.6  •  $$

The MuCEM, the Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations, is Marseille’s landmark cultural institution, a striking contemporary building wrapped in a filigree concrete lattice at the entrance to the old port. Linked by a footbridge to the historic Fort Saint-Jean, its ticketed exhibitions explore the history, art and cultures of the Mediterranean world in thought-provoking displays. As much a piece of architecture and a place to stroll, with rooftop terraces and sea views, as a museum, it is a highlight of the regenerated waterfront and of any visit to the city.
