A coral islet of roughly 26 hectares in Mahebourg Bay, managed as a nature reserve by the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation. It holds the largest surviving fragment of Mauritius’s dry coastal ebony forest, rebuilt over decades by clearing introduced plants and animals, and now supports reintroduced pink pigeons, Mauritius fodies and olive white-eyes alongside Aldabra giant tortoises brought in as ecological substitutes for the island’s extinct native tortoises. Access is by guided tour only and must be booked in advance; boats leave from the Pointe Jerome jetty near Pointe d’Esny, and the walk on marked paths lasts around two hours. Fees fund the Foundation’s conservation work. Shade is limited and sturdy footwear is sensible.
