Being the main city in Mauritius, Port Louis is the home of the largest market, where you can find fresh food items, local dishes, and various handcrafted goods that are useful to locals and serve as souvenirs for tourists. It is always crowded, even during weekdays, as many locals working in Port Louis stop by for a cheap snack.

You can find fresh meat, poultry, fish and seafood, as well as veggies, fruits and spices. You can also buy many handcrafted souvenirs and gifts, but keep in mind you must bargain all the time. It's also one of the best places for local street food.
Walk around and try an almond alouda (milk-based drink with tapioca), a dholl puri (pea flour pancake), and a farata (wheat flour pancake).
