Andrew McConnell's Flinders Lane dining room has run since 2008 and still keeps seats free for walk-ins at the long bar.
Open from noon seven days for Victorian produce — small plates, shared roasts and a wine list that rewards a slow lunch.
Local tip: Walk-ins are always welcome, so turn up just before noon or after 2pm and you will usually get a bar seat.
