Zocalo and Catedral Metropolitana

The Zocalo is one of the largest city squares in the world, a vast civic stage flanked by the National Palace and the towering Metropolitan Cathedral, built over three centuries atop the ruins of Aztec Tenochtitlan. Entry to the cathedral is free and the square hosts ceremonies, protests and festivals almost daily. Come at dusk when the buildings are floodlit, and step inside the cathedral to see its gilded altarpieces.
