Mutrah Souq is one of the oldest marketplaces in the Arabian Peninsula, a warren of covered lanes along the Mutrah Corniche selling frankincense, silver khanjars, textiles, spices and Omani perfume. It's the default first stop for shopping in Muscat and stays a genuine working market rather than a purely tourist-facing one.
Local tip: Shops close in the afternoon and reopen around 4pm — go in the evening when it's fully open and cooler.
