The Buyuk Han, or Great Inn, is a beautifully preserved Ottoman caravanserai in northern Nicosia, built in 1572 as a lodging for travelling merchants. Its arcaded courtyard, with a small octagonal mosque at its centre, now houses craft shops, galleries and cafes. Reached by crossing the Green Line, it is one of the finest Ottoman buildings in Cyprus and a delightful place to browse, have a coffee and soak up the atmosphere of the old citys northern side.
