Perched on a cliff above the lake, the Church of St. John at Kaneo is Ohrid’s most photographed landmark and one of the best free views in town, reached by a short walk along the clifftop path from the Old Town. The exterior and the surrounding viewpoint cost nothing to visit, though a small fee applies if you want to step inside and see the frescoes. Go in the late afternoon, when the light on the water behind the church is at its best.
