Old Town of Ohrid

Ohrid’s Old Town is a hillside tangle of cobbled lanes and Ottoman-era timber houses, their upper floors leaning out over the streets in the traditional style, all free to wander at any hour. It runs from the lakefront up towards Samuel’s Fortress, taking in the Old Bazaar, several Byzantine churches, and viewpoints over the lake along the way. Comfortable shoes are the only requirement; the streets are steep, uneven, and best explored slowly.
