Ostrog Monastery, dramatically carved into a sheer cliff face high above the Zeta valley north of Podgorica, is the most important pilgrimage site in Montenegro and one of the most striking monasteries in the world. Dedicated to St Basil of Ostrog, it draws pilgrims of many faiths to its white rock-hewn chapels. Visits are free but donations are welcomed, and the spectacular setting and spiritual atmosphere make it an unmissable excursion from the capital.
