Lípa — named for the linden, the Czech national tree — is a lovely little design-and-souvenir shop in Prague's old town, a refreshing antidote to the tacky trinket stalls. Everything here is made in the Czech Republic in the traditional way, so you can pick up a genuinely local keepsake with a story rather than a mass-produced fridge magnet.
The shelves are full of well-made Czech craft and design — porcelain, wooden toys, enamel mugs, notebooks, bags, postcards and fair-trade chocolate and marmalade — sourced from small local artisans and producers. Its main shop sits in the arcade of a beautiful old building on Malé náměstí, making a browse here a small pleasure in itself.
Local tip: It is a great spot for gifts and souvenirs that actually feel Czech — the enamel mugs and wooden toys travel well. Find the main store on Malé náměstí, just off the Old Town Square.
