The Old New Synagogue, being the oldest active synagogue in Europe and one of the main attractions of the Jewish Quarter is also a beautiful piece of early Gothic architecture (1270). Moreover, It is here that the legendary Golem fell in pieces.

Why you should visit it

The legend says that the legendary Golem brought to life by Rabbi Loew is still lying in the attic of the synagogue. The direct vicinity of the synagogue is full of other stories and such attractions as the largest Jewish cemetery in Europe, a Rococo style Jewish Town Hall, a Baroque style Maisel Synagogue or the neo-Romanesque Ceremonial Hall.

Special tip

The synagogues of the Jewish Ghetto can be visited on the official Jewish Quarter tour but you will need a special ticket to enter this one.
