Kaffibarinn is arguably the most famous bar in Reykjavik, a cosy, red-fronted haunt on Bergstadastraeti that has drawn artists, musicians and night owls for decades, once part-owned by a member of Blur. By day it is a relaxed coffee-and-beer spot, but come the weekend it transforms into a heaving dancefloor with DJs spinning late into the night. The crowd is arty and unpretentious. Come early for a quiet pint and a chat, or roll in after midnight to catch the place at its raucous best, and expect a queue on a Friday.
