The Marienkirche is probably the most famous and the biggest church of Rostock. After almost 800 years it is still used by an active and lively congregation and welcomes more than 150.000 visitors every year. There is a lot to discover in the church, e.g. the astrological clock that has been showing much more than just time since 1472.

Everybody can have a look inside for a voluntary donation. There are public tours for 5€ (2.50€ concessions) every day at 11 am. For the same price you can also go on a tour up the tower and to the church bells on Monday and Wednesday at 11 am. No booking needed. Both tours last 1 hour each. No tours on Sundays & holidays, only May-October.
A tour can be quite helpful to understand the astronomical clock and appreciate it in its full ingenuity.
