Urgut Bazaar, around 40 kilometres south of Samarkand, is regarded as Central Asia's capital of suzani – the region's distinctive embroidered textiles. A dedicated textile and antique section sells both new and vintage suzani, jewellery and skullcaps, at prices generally lower than you'll find back in Samarkand itself.
The market runs its main textile trading on Sundays and Wednesdays, with Sunday the busiest and best-stocked day.
Local tip: Bargaining is expected here, more so than in the city bazaars.
