The Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino holds one of Latin America's best collections of pre-Columbian art, from Inca goldwork to Chinchorro mummies older than Egypt's, housed in a handsome former courthouse a block from Plaza de Armas. It's a serious museum that rewards an hour or two, not a quick detour.
General admission is roughly CLP 10,000 for adults according to ticketing sites (worth confirming on-site), with free entry for Chilean residents on Sundays and for everyone on the first Sunday of each month.
Local tip: Open Tuesday to Sunday; go early on weekends before tour groups arrive.
