El Sartén has earned the nickname 'La Catedral de la Música Caribeña' for its nightly diet of live merengue, bachata and salsa, played for a genuinely mixed-age local crowd rather than a tourist one. There is no cover charge, which is part of why it packs in tight once the music gets going late at night.
It is a proper dance bar rather than a sit-and-watch venue, so expect to be pulled onto the floor.
Local tip: Arrive with comfortable shoes – the floor fills fast after midnight.
