Thomas Karsten's 1930s market hall, whose concrete mushroom columns rank among the finest modernist structures in Indonesia.
Rebuilt after the 2015 fire and reopened in 2022 across three blocks. Come for the restored architecture and the heritage story rather than the dense crowds of its heyday.
Local tip: It stands beside Kota Lama and the Great Mosque, so the three work well as one walk.
