Casa Piriquita

★ 4.4  •  $

Casa Piriquita has been baking Sintra’s signature pastries on Rua das Padarias since 1862, making it one of the oldest continuously operating pastry shops in Portugal.

The nickname “Piriquita” (parakeet) was reportedly given to co-founder Constância Gomes by King Carlos I himself during his summers in Sintra, and the shop has kept the name ever since.

Both its Rua das Padarias locations sell the full range of travesseiros and queijadas, the two pastries most associated with the town, to take away or eat in.

Local tip: Queues build fast after mid-morning — arrive early if you want a travesseiro fresh and without the wait.
