Why locals love it
On the Northern end of this wide beach is a lovely bush walk up over the headland to Bilgola Beach. It only takes 20 minutes and there's a beach cafe to relax at on arrival. If you don't like the packed environs of the busier beaches, Newport is a great alternative
Why you should visit it
Newport Beach is on the Northern side of the Harbour Bridge, about 30 minutes drive along the coast (or more quickly via Wakehurst Parkway). It has wonderful cafes and shops and the beach itself features an ocean pool and a volleyball net (bring a ball!).
Special tip
The Newport pub (with views over the Pittwater and sail boats) is great for a sunny lunch, open air and only a 15 minute walk from the beach.
