Tabriz's Grand Bazaar is a UNESCO-listed maze of vaulted brick alleys covering around seventy acres, and it is still a working market rather than a museum piece.
Different timchehs (covered halls) specialise in different trades: carpets in Timcheh Mozaffariyeh, gold and jewellery in Amir Bazaar, plus whole sections for spices, textiles and copperware. Locals shop here for the same goods they always have, tourists are almost a side note.
Local tip: Pick one or two sections rather than trying to see the whole bazaar in one go; it is far bigger than it looks from any single entrance.
