Home to one of the world's greatest collections of Chinese imperial art, this vast museum holds treasures spanning millennia. The Jadeite Cabbage and Meat-shaped Stone draw the crowds, but the calligraphy and ceramics reward a slow visit.
Set in the hills of Shilin, the galleries are extensive, so allow a few hours and pick up an audio guide at the entrance.
Local tip: Arrive at opening or late afternoon to dodge the tour-group crush.
