The Solaris shopping centre has been subject to controversy ever since the old Soviet era Sakala centre was torn down to make room for the new mall. Every now and then you can hear some of the older folk complain about the new building, but we the youth (secretly) quite fancy the place because of its focus on lifestyle rather than shopping.

Aside from a well-stocked grocery store and many interesting shops, the centre houses a huge Estonian design section on the 1st floor that makes for a great place to hunt for gifts. Film freaks can especially appreciate the Artis alternative film theatre and there are numerous cafes and restaurants to keep you there for hours.
On the other side of the building is the Alexela concert hall, the schedule of which is worth checking out!
