Back in the day, the Õismäe district used to be that hi-tech ultra-modern neighbourhood where every Soviet citizen wanted to live in blissful harmony with the constant buzz of the trolleys. It is a world of straight lines and embodied calculations. Viewed from above, these lines and squares come together in the shape of a giant circle.
For travellers who wish to see more than just the picture-pretty Old Town, Õismäe is certainly an interesting sight. If you've spent a lot of time in Eastern Europe however, it might come across as a bit familiar, to put it mildly. Dull grey tower blocks, utterly functionalist in nature, are visible remnants of the Soviet regime.
Once you're there you should give the zoo and the open-air museum a visit as well.
