The Huniade Castle, the oldest building in Timisoara, was built in the 15th century for the Hungarian regent John Hunyadi on the site of an earlier royal residence. Rebuilt over the centuries, it now houses the National Museum of Banat, with archaeology and history exhibits telling the story of the region. Ticketed admission gives access to the collections within the imposing castle, making it the best place to explore the deep history of Timisoara and the Banat.
