Grand Souk des Chechias, on Rue de la Kasbah, is where Tunis's traditional felt chechia caps have been made by hand for generations, and several workshops here still let you watch the process from knitting through to felting and dyeing.
A finished chechia takes weeks of work across several craftsmen, which explains why a good one costs more than the tourist-market versions sold elsewhere in the Medina.
Local tip: Go earlier in the day if you want to see the workshops actually working rather than just the finished caps on display.
