Well, it is Parliament, the place where all the politicians make serious (?) decisions about Lithuania's future. If locals are not happy with their job, they come here to strike. People also come here to visit the important memorial for Lithuanian independence.
In 1990 Lithuania was the first Soviet Republic to declare independence. It wasn't all smooth sailing though as 14 people were killed in clashes with the Soviet security forces the following year. Today, the barricades that were once set up to protect Parliament now serve as a memorial to the people who died defending their freedom.
After visiting the cathedral follow the main street for 1.5 km to reach Parliament.
