A half-day trip to Trakai, the lakeside town that was once Lithuania’s medieval capital, about half an hour from Vilnius. The island castle rising from Lake Galve is the centrepiece, reached by a wooden footbridge, and the audio guide covers its history and that of the Karaim community who settled here. Minibus transfers from Vilnius are included, making it an easy escape from the city with free time to explore the castle and lakeshore.
