Tymo Market (Tymo Turgus)

Tymo turgus is a cheerful little market on the edge of Vilnius's bohemian Užupis, a local favourite for fresh food and a relaxed, community feel. Smaller and more characterful than a big covered market hall, it is where Vilnius comes for farm produce, flowers and artisan bits, with a laid-back, neighbourly atmosphere a world away from the supermarket.

Depending on the day you will find stalls of seasonal fruit and vegetables, cheeses, honey, bread and flowers, plus craft and food producers and the occasional street-food stall. It is an easy, pleasant stop on a wander between the old town and Užupis, and a lovely place to pick up picnic supplies or a local treat.

Local tip: It is best on its busier market days — mornings tend to have the fullest spread — so check local timings. Bring cash and a bag, and combine it with a stroll around the arty Užupis 'republic' next door.
