Historic theatre in the heart of Shaw

The Howard Theatre

Why locals love it

Reopened after major renovations in 2012, this historic venue holds memory and is a contemporary theatre of memory-making in the heart of the Shaw neighborhood. The theatre is now a performance space as well as a southern-style supper club. The Howard Theatre still has the spirit of its roots as an African-American theatre with Sunday gospel.

Why you should visit it

The Howard Theatre is a leader in entertainment. With a spectrum of shows ranging from DC famous 90s cover band, to national headliners, the theatre maintains its diverse roots in music. Though you might only go for a show, the efforts to reclaim the space as a proper supper club translate well on the menu for normal dinner hours and late night.

Special tip

Many of the cocktails are named for famous musicians who once graced the stage. The Ray is a favorite with sweet tea vodka.
