The Pieve di Santa Maria is one of the finest Romanesque churches in Tuscany, its distinctive facade of stacked arched loggias and its tall bell tower, known as the tower of a hundred holes, dominating the Corso. Inside, a polyptych by Pietro Lorenzetti adorns the altar. Ticketed access to parts of the church, including the crypt and the climb up the tower for views over the city, makes it a rewarding stop and one of the architectural gems of Arezzo.
