Unity Park occupies part of the National Palace compound at Arat Kilo, a walled site founded in 1887 that served seven Ethiopian rulers and was closed to the public until October 2019. The restored buildings include Emperor Menelik II’s palace, the throne house and the banquet hall, shown alongside pavilions presenting the country’s regional cultures and a traditional Ethiopian garden of endemic plants. Two animal enclosures hold Ethiopian black-maned lions and other species. Admission is charged, with separate rates for residents presenting national identification and for foreign visitors presenting a passport, and reduced-price family evening sessions on selected days. The park closes on Mondays. Bags are screened at the gate and photography rules are enforced.
