The Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club

The Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club

A 1960s motor lodge two streets back from the beach, reworked in 2016 into a design hotel that leans on mid-century Hawaiian graphics, island artists and Hawaii-made goods rather than resort polish. The courtyard pool has a message spelled out in tile across its floor, which accounts for most of the property's photographs. Rooms are compact, some with kitchenettes, and a handful of suites open directly onto the pool deck. Being inland on Lewers Street it costs less than the beachfront blocks and stands about five minutes' walk from the sand, with the Ala Wai side of Waikiki and the Ala Moana shops both within reach. There is a ground-floor restaurant and a small retail space carrying local brands. Parking is valet only, at a daily charge.
