Manoa Valley Inn

A seven-room bed and breakfast in the John Guild House, a 1915 Craftsman-style residence on the National Register of Historic Places, set on a terraced garden plot above Manoa Valley. It is the closest thing Honolulu has to a period guesthouse: dark wood, verandas, antique furniture and a good deal of creaking floor. Rooms have private bathrooms and air conditioning, and a cooked breakfast is included in the rate. The setting is residential and green, a short walk from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and the cafes of Moiliili, with the Manoa Falls trail further up the valley. Waikiki is a twenty-minute drive or a bus ride away, so the inn suits travellers content to be out of the resort district. Manoa is noticeably wetter and cooler than the coast.
