Puu Ualakaa State Wayside

Puu Ualakaa State Wayside

A small state park near the top of Round Top Drive above Makiki, with a paved lookout giving one of the widest views on the island: Manoa Valley and the university to the left, Diamond Head and Waikiki ahead, the airport and the lochs of Pearl Harbor to the right. Admission and parking are free. The drive up takes about fifteen minutes on a narrow switchbacking road through residential Tantalus and rainforest, and the gate is locked in the evening, with closing times varying by season. Picnic tables and short paths sit below the viewpoint, and the Makiki Valley and Manoa Cliff trails run nearby. Cloud often sits on the ridge in the morning; the view is generally clearest in the late afternoon.
