The city's principal mid-sized music venue, holding around 1,200 people and named after the address of its original 1980 home on F Street, where it was central to the Washington hardcore scene. It moved to the current V Street building, a former warehouse beside the Howard Theatre, in 1996. The room is a straightforward rectangle with a balcony on three sides, and sightlines are unusually good for a standing venue. Programming ranges widely across rock, hip-hop, electronic and international touring acts, typically several nights a week. Most shows are all-ages with bars in separate areas. U Street/African-American Civil War Memorial/Cardozo Metro is directly outside, which matters as shows often finish close to the last train.
