A jazz supper club in a converted eighteenth-century carriage house down a cobbled lane off Wisconsin Avenue, operating since 1965 and among the oldest continuously running jazz rooms in the country. The space is small, low-ceilinged and seated at tables, with the stage close enough that amplification is minimal. Dizzy Gillespie, Sarah Vaughan and Wynton Marsalis have all recorded live albums here. Programming is mainly straight-ahead jazz with two sets most evenings, and a Creole-leaning menu is served during performances. Seating is at shared tables and allocated on arrival, so early attendance affects where one ends up. Tickets are sold per set and a minimum spend usually applies, listed at the time of booking.
