Winstons has presented live music in Ocean Beach since 1986, from a site one block back from the sand on Bacon Street. Bands generally begin around nine in the evening, with earlier slots given over to open mic, comedy and quiz nights, and the club claims the longest-running musical residency in the city. Bookings skew towards reggae, funk, jam bands and Grateful Dead tribute acts, though Slightly Stoopid, Steel Pulse and Karl Denson's Tiny Universe have all played the room. It is a dark, low-ceilinged bar rather than a purpose-built venue, and the crowd mixes long-standing Ocean Beach residents with visitors. Open daily until late, it is one of very few places locally with music every night.
