Ratna Cafe was founded in 1948 by an immigrant from Mathura and is now run by the fourth generation of the same family, still serving the sambar it is best known for alongside rava kesari and rasmalai. The Triplicane flagship remains the reference branch, and it gets seriously busy at breakfast and lunch.
Local tip: Go for the sambar idli and expect to queue if you arrive at peak tiffin hours.
