Al Bustan Palace opened in 1985 to host an Arab League summit and remains one of Muscat's grandest hotels, set between the Sea of Oman and the Al Hajar Mountains with a domed lobby, palm-lined gardens and a private beach. It's one of the few Muscat hotels built specifically as a landmark rather than converted from a business property.
Local tip: The beachfront and mountain-backed setting make this worth a visit even for a sunset drink if you're not staying.
