Amber World Museum combines a small curated exhibit on how amber and larimar form with a jewellery shop built around both stones, on Arzobispo Meriño near the cathedral. It is aimed squarely at helping visitors tell real amber from the fakes sold on the street, before they buy anything.
Worth a look before shopping elsewhere in the Zona Colonial for amber or larimar pieces, purely for the education on what to look for.
Local tip: Ask staff to show you the insect inclusions – it is the clearest way to tell genuine amber from resin fakes.
