Casa de Teatro has run as an independent, artist-led cultural centre on Arzobispo Meriño since 1974, founded by Dominican writer and publisher Freddy Ginebra as a theatre collective that grew into a gallery, music venue and free arts school. It gives young and emerging artists a stage regardless of money or prestige, which is rare for an institution now past its fiftieth year.
Its long-running jazz series is one of the better live-music nights in the Zona Colonial when it is on.
